Something about Norway

Norway has an area of 385,207[3] km² (including Svalbard). Due to its relatively low population of around 5 million[4], the population density is around 13 per km² (excluding Svalbard: 16 per km²) and Norway is the second least densely populated country in Europe after Iceland and Kazakhstan. Large parts of the country are dominated by nature; forests, fjords, glaciers and lakes are characteristic of the Norwegian landscape.

Norway, officially the Kingdom of Norway (Norwegian: Kongeriket Norge is a country in Northern Europe. Norway is located on the western part of the Scandinavian Peninsula and borders Sweden, Finland and Russia. The United Kingdom and the Faroe Islands lie to the west on the other side of the North Sea and Denmark lies to the south on the other side of the North Sea.

History

The oldest utensils found on Norwegian territory date back to 10,500 BC; they were excavated in the vicinity of Øygarden. Around this time, western Norway was ice-free and therefore suitable for habitation. Stone tools found during an excavation in the vicinity of Rennesøy have been dated to around 10,000 BC.

 

Geography

Norway is located in Northern Europe and covers the western part of Scandinavia. To the east, there are land borders with, clockwise, Russia (196 km), Finland (727 km) and Sweden (1619 km). To the north, west, and south, the country borders the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the North Sea, and the Skagerrak.
